14 for ’14: The No Resolutions Revolution for the New Year

Happy New Year Friends!     IMG_0908

I don’t know about you, but 2013 felt less like a year and more like a semester.

What? What do you mean it’s already time for finals? I JUST got here…

Therefore, I am not creating resolutions for 2014, but instead focusing on ideas I intend to practice. Starting now.

I thought I would share.

1.) I will no longer wish for things I want to change to be “different.” Instead, I will embody the difference I wish to be (shout out to Gandhi!).

2.) I will not let my head get ahead of me… meaning, that my mind may not always know what is best, but my heart will never fail me (thank you Dalai Lama!).

3.) I will remain detached about as much as I possibly can as often as I possibly can, because uncertainty is the only certainty (gracias Deepak Chopra!).

4.) I will remember that time and all physical reality is an illusion and that the only truth is love. This is two big ones in one (rock on, Buddha!).

5.) I will remind myself daily that compassion is the name of the game in every game that has ever been played (merci again Buddha!).

6.) I will remember that it is “all just a game” that’s meant to be played joyfully (with love and admiration to Florence Scovel Shinn, the original “law of attraction” homegirl!).

7.) I will remember that really “Love is All You Need” (huzzah Beatles!).

8.) I will remember to more forgiving in all corners of life reminding myself that I have been that driver/server/person who’s having a bad day/fearful/confused/concerned/stressed/overly-sensitive being who needs compassion, understanding, and extra space.

9.) I will stay present more often than not, with the goal of being present 100% of the time (cheers Eckhart Tolle!).

10.) I will remember that while I may not always understand the plan, I will always trust it.

11.) I will remember that I can not complain and stay in gratitude at the same time.

12). I will remember to not believe everything I think (with gratitude to Dr. Wayne Dyer!).

13.) I will remember that all of these take actual “Practice! Practice! Practice!” (with respect and thanks to Mrs. Marlowe, my violin teacher).

14.) Miracles are not only possible, they are plausible. We just need to be looking in the right places. Often they’re as simple as a shift in perspective (with a boat load of danke to Marianne Williamson!).

On that note, have a miraculous 2014!

Please share your thoughts, wishes, and intentions for the new year here. I would love to hear them!

Love,
Alix
