If we learn how to listen our intuition–6th sense y’all!–it’s available to us everyday.
Though it’s easy to miss because it’s generally a subtle frequency and can be drowned out by our thoughts and emotions very easily.
If we think of thoughts and emotions like the roar of the loud, professional-grade rider power mower in our yards…
Then our intuition is the gentle birdsong trying to be heard over the cacophony that is the price of a manicured lawn.
So to hear ‘the birdsong’ requires a moment of stillness to *tune in* into its divine music.
I realize this ‘moment of stillness’ is easier said than done in our hectic noisy world.
Here is how you start:
1.) Breath. Wherever you find yourself, be still and notice your breath.
2.) Keep breathing more fully and deeply, until you feel your chest and diaphragm expand.
3.) OK, still keep breathing. I know you’re thinking about the email you forgot to reply to, but resist this business from your mind and just… be.
4.) Congratulations! You just give yourself the gift of stillness.
5.) As you “be,” all external stimulus will start to fall away. With practice you can achieve this state in less than a minute.
NOTE: This exercise isn’t about mastering emptying your mind or meditation. It’s just about creating a momentary space for your intuition to communicate with you.
6.) Next, place your attention on your heart and breath again. You will feel a sense of expansion and warmth. Relaxation will ensue.
7.) Now ask yourself a simple question. It can be, “What sort of beans should I buy?” or “Should I open a Roth IRA?”
It doesn’t matter, but I suggest you begin with small questions where you can stay detached from the outcome.
8.) Detachment is key. If we’re too worried or invested in the answer, our fear will trample our intuitive wisdom.
9.) What was the answer?
Did you hear it (hearing it in your head is most common, unless you just discovered that you’re audioclairvoyant and heard an external voice)?
Did you feel it?
Or did you see a picture in your mind?
This information can come and go like a comet, but that is your intuition.
Our intuition, which is ALWAYS guiding us to our greatest good, will feel good. The answer will feel “right” and give you a sense of relief. That’s how you know it’s your intuition.
It lines up with who you really are and where you want to be.
Like, “Yes! I will go with the kidney beans! Woohoo! I love those little suckers. Navy Beans? That’s crazy talk! What was I thinking?”
Now, if you receive and answer that seems, well, just wrong, or it makes you uncomfortable, then trust it. Why? Because it is entirely possible that your unconscious mind or your ego may swoop in to sabotage this gentle, budding process.
I know this is confusing but it’s a very important part of learning how to tune-in.
The unconscious minds may as well be married to our egos…
[In fact, they love each other the way Ice Loves Coco].
However, this part of ourselves are intensely threatened by the idea of being deposed — especially by this flighty, ephemeral unseen upstart.
As we begin to practice this tuning in process, it can be a little like a gang turf war up in there, but instead of hotheaded young men hellbent on city block supremacy, it’s a clash between our loud power-rider mower minds (unconscious or otherwise)…
And our sweet and serene singing spirits patiently waiting to be heard through the channel of our intuition.
Which would you rather listen to?
*** Please let me know how this works for you! I can’t wait to hear the results! Also, please feel free to post questions. I would be happy to answer them.
Love,
Alix
